Tips of Leaving China After Your China Tour



Exit Regulations
Foreign travellers should depart from China with their valid passports, visa, credentials and other documents checked by the frontier inspection station. Note that if you want to overstay your visa, please do apply for an extension before your visa expires. Or you will be heavily fined. Hand baggages should be examined at the Customs. And travellers will be asked to fill in Exit Registration Card. All items declared at Customs upon arrival in China should be brought out of China. A valid certificate is required or certain amount of import duty will be charged if any item is missing. Items detained by the Customs on arrival could be gotten back, except for rotten goods or those that has exceed it's expiry dates.

There are two lanes for departing travelers to choose from.

Anyone who falls into following category should take the red lane:
Any person who is carrying antiques, valuable articles and samples along with him/her.
Any person who is carrying articles that were required to take out of China when entering.
When the amount of silver, gold and currency you are having, exceed the amounts or quantities that you has declared when entering.
When the articles that the person is having, exceed the customs allowable amounts or quantities.




Items subject to Exit Restrictions:

1.Antiques
Any antiques that date before 1795 AD are forbidden for export. On departure, a certificate for Relics Export issued by the regional Cultural Relics Bureau and a small red seal are required for those antiques dated between 1796 and 1949 AD. Otherwise, the antiques you bought will be confiscated without any refunds or compensations.

2.Gold and Silver
Receipt are required for any gold or silver items that is purchased in China.

3.Traditional Chinese Medicinal Products
Travellers leaving China for foreign countries are allowed to carry no more than RMB300 worth of traditional Chinese medicinal products. For those heading to Hong Kong and Macau, the maximum value permitted is RMB 150 yuan. The value of an individual parcel of traditional Chinese medicinal products allowed to be mailed to a foreign country is RMB200; if such a parcel is to be mailed to Hongkong or Macau, the value should not exceed RMB100. Note: Medicinal products extracted from rare animals, such as muskiness, antler, leopard, tiger bones, rhinoceros horns and elephant skins are NOT prohibited from taking out of China.

4.Currency
Travellers should declare the unused portion of the foreign currency bills with the certificate issued by the Chinese Foreign Exchange Administration for foreign currency bills carried upon arrival. Anyone who want to convert Renminbi (RMB) currencies back to foreign currencies at the airport when leaving China should provide exchange transaction slip issued by the authorized banks or hotels that has carried out the exchange transaction while in China. Travellers are allowed to carry no more than RMB6000 when leaving China.

5. Souvenirs
Foreign travellers are allowed to carry unlimited value, variety and quantity of souvenirs and arts and crafts bought in China when leaving, except for those prohibited or limited products that are subject to export permits or customs duties. The souvenirs you bought will be examined with relevant invoices and foreign exchanged memos by the Customs.




Items not allowed to leave China:
Manuscripts, printed matters, films, photographs, gramophone records, movies, recording tapes, videotapes, VCDs, computer storage media and other articles whose contents are related to state secrets;
Valuable cultural relics and rare books and other cultural relics not allowed to leave China by law;
Endangered and valuable species of animals, plants (including samples), as well as their seeds and breeding materials.
