Transportation in China

Transportation in China
Nowdays, China owns comprehensive transportation system, consisting of highways, railways, airplanes. Even the remote city, Lhasa, could be reached by railway since the operation of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway in 2005.

Air, China Flight
Airplane is the most convenient and time-saving means of transportation. We recommend our guests to take air instead of train, because not only the air services far exceed the services you will get on the train but also the airfare is not very expensive compared with international standards.
The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) is the civil aviation authority. Most airlines are under its management, including Air China, China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines and etc.
Airport Tax is prepaid when issuing the tickets which is 120RMB per ticket for domestic flights at the time of writing.

2 pieces of carry-on luggage are allowed for passengers with first-class ticket and 1 piece for business and economy-class ticket holders. The size of each luggage should be within 20 x 40 x 55cm. Total weight of carry-on luggage should be within 5kg.
The free luggage allowance for domestic flights is 40kg for first-class ticket holder, 30kg for business-class and 20kg for economy-class. Passengers should pay for overweight luggage.
We recommend to check in your domestic flight 1h before the departure time and board the plane at least 20 minutes before it takes off. As for international flights, check in 1.5h before the departure time and board the flight 30m before take off.

China Railway and Train.
To travel around a vast country as China, taking train may be a nice choice because its affordable rate. The thing is that you have to gain a basic understanding of how this system works before make the choice of taking train.

A). Something you may feel uncomfortable with or not used to.
-Some of our guests are appalled by the scene of waiting in the lounge and checking in trains with thousands of passengers. We recommend to choose soft-sleeper. As guests with soft-sleeper tickets are privileged to have a separate waiting lounge and preferential boarding.
-People smoke even when the sigh of 'No Smoking' is available. When you are under such circumstances, you may courteously ask the smoker to stop smoking or seek help from the carriage attendant.
-The bathroom condition and facility of the train may be far under western travellers' expectation. That's why we always recommend soft-sleeper to our guests. Some cabinet with soft sleepers even provide private bathroom which is cleaner and more convenient for travellers.
-Limited English sign and English-speaking staff make you feel lost.
