Home : Before China Trip :
Passport and Visa
Normally, both Passport and Visa are required for foreigners to enter into, exit from or transit through China.
You shall obtain a passport with at least 6-month validity from the day of entry.
As for visa, you shall apply for the appropriate visa to one of the Chinese visa authorities according to your visiting purpose.
As the most common-used visa, Visa L (Tourist Visa) is the easiest to obtain. It is issued to aliens who visit China for sightseeing, visiting relatives and other private purposes.
For tourist applicants, one of the easiest ways to apply for it is asking the local travel service to send invitation letter to the Chinese embassy for you. If you need visa extension, please apply to the local public security bureau at least 7 days before the expiration date of your visa.
If you are traveling with a group on a group visa and want to stay longer than your group, you shall apply for an individual visa. You will face heavy fine if you overstay your visa or fail to apply for an extension. First-time extensions of 30 days are normally easy to obtain on single-entry tourist visas. It also means that it's difficult for further extensions. If you are at your wit's end, applying for a new tourist visa to Hongkong may be a nice choice for you.
Visa to Hongkong
We are often asked by our guests if they could travel to Hongkong without applying for an extra visa. The answer is that some visitors, including citizens of the EU, Australia, New Zealand, the USA and Canada, could enter into Hongkong without a visa for 90-day stay. You may consult with related Chinese embassy or consulate before you go. Please note that if you visit Hong Kong from China, either a multiple-entry visa to re-enter China or a new visa is required.
