Always try to pack light and resist the temptation to add non-essentials. If you're thinking "my trip will be a disaster without this", you maybe right to add the item on your pack list. But consider it carefully and dispassionately.

Carry the minimum number of valuables. You will be less concerned during your tour in this way.
. Pack your medicines in their originally labeled containers and bring copies of your prescriptions to avoid problems for customs checking. If your medicine contains some special ingredient, such as narcotic, you may also carry a letter with your doctor's attestation that you need to take the drug. It is recommended to check with the Embassy or Consulate to make sure that your medicines will be allowed into China. Meanwhile, it is advisable to make sure any of your regular medication double your needs in case it's lost or stolen.

Keep the heavy things towards the bottom of your pack, put the lighter stuff and things you'll need soonest nearer the top.
Put a card with your name, address and contact phone numbers inside and outside of each piece of your luggage in the event it's lost.
